5.2 million enrolled in Workplace Pensions Scheme
In one of the biggest reforms to pensions in the last decade, the automatic enrolment pension scheme has, since its launch in 2012, been responsible for the enrolment of nearly 5.2 million workers in workplace pension scheme.
Set to encompass over 9 million employees by the end of its roll out in 2018, it has been heralded as an important step in getting more people to save for their retirement.
Minister for Pensions Steve Webb commented that with people living increasingly longer, “it is vital for their future prosperity that they save when they can.”
Continuing, he said that “Automatic Enrolment is giving people real support to do just that, with the employee, their employer and the Government making regular, affordable and fair contributions.”
